Aaron Hillel Swartz (November 8, 1986-- January 11, 2013) was an American computer designer, business owner, author, political planner and Internet hacktivist which was associated with the development of the web feed style RSS and the Markdown publishing format, the organization Creative Commons, the internet site structure web.py and the social news website, Reddit, in which he became a companion after its merging with his firm, Infogami. He committed suicide while under government indictment for data-theft, a prosecution that was defined by his family as being "the devices of a criminal-justice system raging with intimidation and prosecutorial overreach".
Swartz's work likewise concentrated on sociology, civic awareness and advocacy. He assisted release the Progressive Change Campaign Committee in 2009 to read more regarding reliable on-line activism. Federal district attorneys later billed him with 2 counts of cord fraud and 11 violations of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, lugging a cumulative maximum penalty of $1 million in greats, 35 years in prison, property loss, restitution, and monitored release.
Swartz decreased an appeal deal under which he would certainly have offered six months in federal jail. Two days after the prosecution turned down a counter-offer by Swartz, he was found dead in his Brooklyn home, where he had hanged himself.
In June 2013, Swartz was posthumously sworn in into the Internet Hall of Fame.
